House Republicans are calling for members of the radical abortion group Jane’s Revenge to be investigated as domestic terrorists.
Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), along with 28 other House Republicans, sent a letter calling the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to “classify those committing crimes through Jane’s Revenge as domestic terrorists.”
“These violent acts violate U.S. and State law, and the group itself has claimed intent to intimidate civilians and government officials,” the letter says. “You must use the full extent of your powers under the law to fully prosecute these criminals and prevent further crime.”
The letter quotes the group’s June 14 message, which promised “increasingly drastic measures” against pro-life centers that “may not come in the form of something so easily cleaned up as fire and graffiti.”
“It is clear by their threats that the members of this group have no regard for human life and may be willing to kill those in the pro-life community to further their politically motivated agenda,” the letter says.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-NC) likewise sent a letter today to House Oversight Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Chairman Rep. Jamie Raskin to request a hearing on the attacks, according to Fox News.
She writes that the DHS memo issued on June 7, which warned of a “heightened threat environment” in the coming months, did not make it clear “what the federal government is doing to prevent such attacks or respond to those that have already occurred.”
“We must examine the disturbing trend of rising left-wing violence and conduct oversight over the federal government’s response to this growing threat,” Mace wrote.
Jane’s Revenge has claimed responsibility for over 15 of the recent attacks on pro-life centers and churches, which now total more than 40, according to a report by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. Flyers calling for a “night of rage” on the day Roe is overturned have also started to appear in Washington, D.C. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday on the message making its rounds:
“DC CALL TO ACTION NIGHT OF RAGE,” the flyer says. “THE NIGHT SCOTUS OVERTURNS ROE V. WADE HIT THE STREETS YOU SAID YOU’D RIOT.”
“TO OUR OPPRESSORS: IF ABORTIONS AREN’T SAFE, YOU’RE NOT EITHER,” it says, signing off as Jane’s Revenge.
Mullin called the Left’s unwillingness to speak out “shameful.”
“The violent attacks committed by Jane’s Revenge and other left wing activist groups have no place in our Republic,” Mullin said. “And the members of this organization have made it clear they are not done. It’s shameful the Left has proven, so far, unwilling to speak out against their own fringe narrative, especially if it means American lives are in danger. It’s past time the Biden Administration quits with the complacency and investigates these members for exactly what they are: domestic terrorists. We are demanding immediate action to prevent this violence from occurring ever again.”
Recent actions follow multiple letters sent by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and another letter signed by 100 House Republicans last week, all calling on the Justice Department to investigate recent violence.
The FBI said last Thursday that it was “investigating a series of attacks and threats targeting pregnancy resource centers and faith-based organizations across the country.”
“The FBI takes all threats seriously and we continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners and will remain vigilant to protect our communities,” it said. The FBI did not specifically mention Jane’s Revenge.
These investigation requests must be taken seriously. With opinion days tomorrow and Friday that could include the Dobbs decision, there is no time to waste in doing everything possible to halt an outbreak of greater violence.
