The Left has had a contentious relationship with the English language for decades. Words such as “racism” and “bigotry” have been dangerously robbed of all meaning by leftists and relegated to mean simply anything a Democrat or journalist opposes at any given moment. To many on the Left, violent riots complete with a heavy dose of looting, arson, and even murder are considered acceptable speech, while speech by conservatives, or any non-leftist, is condemned as violence.
One of the worst offenders is former MSNBC host Joy Reid, who has never missed an opportunity to slander her political opponents or demonize demographics of Americans she doesn’t like, namely, white people. The former cable news talking head recently sat down with BET’s Miabelle Bocicault, and while opining on the Left’s boogeyman, Project 2025, Reid unknowingly revealed that, in reality, she does not fear that the United States will descend into a fascist dystopian nightmare. She fears libertarian policy: in other words, individual liberty itself.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN?
Reid dubiously claimed that conservatives aim to return to a “1950s” world where white men are at the top of the societal hierarchy, with women and minorities at the bottom. Then she let the mask slip and revealed what truly sticks in her craw.
“So the goal of trying to force the country backward to that late 19th century or early 20th century, they’re very serious about, and one of the reasons why they’re so serious about it is that if you go back before the 20th century, there were no income taxes, there were no regulations on business, you could earn as much money as you want, leave 100% of it to your children with no taxes, that’s the world they want back,” Reid said.
Of course, Reid’s hateful remarks about the supposed nefarious and racist goals of white people and the American Right bear no resemblance to reality, and Reid is not even describing President Donald Trump, MAGA, or the Republican Party. Trump did cut taxes during his first term in 2017 and has cut some regulations, but he has also raised taxes on all Americans drastically in the form of his massive tariff regime. While talk of abolishing the federal income tax bubbles up on the Right from time to time, only a select few Republican leaders, typically with the last name of Paul, actually mean it. Joy Reid is largely describing the policy proposals of libertarians, at a time when libertarians have less influence on the policy trajectory of the Republican Party than at any point in the last two decades.
Freedom itself scares Joy Reid and her ilk. While Reid and others claim to care about the plight of black Americans and other minorities, it is extraordinarily racist to assert that black people would not benefit from the ability to keep their hard-earned money and leave it, untaxed, to their children. In 2024, the U.S. Small Business Administration estimated that there are roughly 3.5 million black-owned small businesses in the country. Apparently, Reid is fine with the jackboot of government regulation remaining on the neck of these entrepreneurs, as long as the government can still harm white business owners as well.

From Joy Reid’s economic illiteracy and commitment to totalitarian government to the bizarre phenomenon where leftists attempt to combine priorities that are in direct opposition to each other — LGBT and Palestinian advocacy, for example — we are reminded that, to our friends on the Left, ideology matters above all else. To those intellectually crippled by Marxist ideology, any threat to the power of the state must be fought tooth and nail, even if it harms the people they claim to represent.
The rational responses to a regime attempting to eliminate taxation and regulation, if and when it ever happens, range from “attaboy!” to “let’s pass a constitutional amendment to make sure the next Woodrow Wilson can’t ruin everything again!” If the Left’s nightmare comes to fruition and a true liberty-loving leader takes over and returns freedom and autonomy to the people, all Americans would benefit. Joy Reid would be freer and more prosperous than ever before, whether she liked it or not.
