Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico is no stranger to shocking and frankly, ridiculous statements. Talarico and his campaign have been riddled with far-left talking points and policy proposals that are out of step with everyday Texans. If elected, Sen. Talarico would send Texas careening toward California levels of woke madness.
Talarico has fought for the codification of Roe v. Wade and embraced a radical gender ideology that erases the differences between men and women. While the media will present Talarico as Beto O’Rourke with a theology degree, Texans should know where he really stands on the issues.

In 2021, Talarico publicly claimed that “God is nonbinary” while debating against a Republican-led bill to ban boys from participating in girls’ sports. He thought that this combination of theologically illiterate nonsense would be compelling in Texas.
Clearly, the Left’s new favorite seminarian is not familiar with Genesis, in which God clearly says He made human beings male and female. Yet, somehow, Talarico goes even further than his earlier mumbo jumbo and claims that there are actually six genders across a spectrum that can often be “very ambiguous.”
Talarico has no clear definition of what a woman even is. He has previously stated that the word “woman” cannot be used as an exhaustive term but instead must include “trans women” and others, depending on the “context.”
But what do Texans really think? A 2024 poll found that 73% of Texas voters believe that “transgender” athletes should play on sports teams in accordance with their biological sex. This includes 95% of Republicans and even over a third of Democrats.
Texans have clearly expressed where they fall on this issue through their elected representatives in Austin. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) has signed several laws protecting women’s spaces, including banning biological men from using women’s public restrooms and protecting female college athletes via the Save Women’s Sports Act.
Talarico is on the wrong side of an 80-20 issue. He claims that transgender children playing in sports is a “far-right conspiracy” that “does not occur in the state of Texas.” However, we know that plenty of cases have popped up around the country, even reaching the Supreme Court earlier this year.

The Senate hopeful’s views on life are even more extreme. Again, he uses scriptural eisegesis to weave together an uber-progressive narrative. On The Joe Rogan Experience, he argued that Christ’s incarnation justifies abortion. Talarico proclaims, “You cannot force someone to create. … That is how I came down on that side of the issue.” Talarico fails to acknowledge the simple fact that abortion is the destruction of a life already created.
In the state legislature, Talarico has supported legislation that would codify abortion rights and even sent a letter to then-President Joe Biden after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, requesting that the president sign a sickening executive order to lease federal property to abortion clinics, hire abortion providers as federal employees, and prohibit state restrictions on the abortion pill through the FDA.
There have been plenty of opportunities for Talarico to express his thoughts on limiting abortion or maintaining certain restrictions, but he has refused to do so. Instead, in a recent interview, he claimed that the Bible is “silent on abortion” and that women, or as he would say, “neighbors with uteruses,” should be able to come to whatever conclusion they see fit when it comes to choosing abortion. Not a word on restrictions or even limits on aborting third-trimester babies.
Texans, on the other hand, have consistently elected pro-life representation to Austin year after year. If elected, Talarico would represent a complete 180 of strong pro-life leadership from Texas senators. While Democrats have not won a statewide race in Texas since 1994, current polling consistently shows Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton just 1 percentage point ahead of Talarico.
Conservatives must amplify the radical nature of the Democratic nominee for Senate or risk losing Texas to a far-left progressive who seeks to undo what makes the state a model of American freedom and principled values.
