Another bid to recall electors in a state won by President Joe Biden in 2020 appears to be going nowhere fast.
Arizona state Rep. Mark Finchem, a Republican and Trump ally, introduced a resolution Monday calling for the elections of Maricopa, Pima, and Yuma Counties to be “set aside” based on “clear and convincing” evidence that the elections in those counties were “irredeemably compromised.”
However, as reported by local media, Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers, also a Republican, signaled that the measure is doomed from the start.
“Mr. Finchem’s obviously unconstitutional and profoundly unwise proposal will receive all the consideration it deserves,” he said, according to reporting by ABC 15.
Last month, a similar resolution was introduced in Wisconsin but was quickly snuffed out.
‘ILLEGAL’ WISCONSIN BID TO RECALL BIDEN ELECTORS FAILS SPECTACULARLY
Finchem, whose district includes parts of Pima and Pinal counties, is a candidate for Arizona secretary of state endorsed by former President Donald Trump, who has boosted assertions of there being widespread fraud in states including Arizona even as election officials and the courts have roundly rejected such claims. Maricopa County, where Phoenix is located, was the site of a controversial audit commissioned by the GOP-led Arizona Senate that affirmed Biden’s victory but led to a referral to the state’s attorney general to investigate “urgent issues.”

Still, Finchem insisted in a statement about the resolution, “We have debunked the ‘baseless claims’ narrative promoted by the propaganda pushing media and are now on to the business of providing specific relief to the People.”
Finchem acknowledges that there may not be an existing mechanism to “decertify” an election but argues that does not mean the state Legislature can’t create a remedy. He says there is evidence showing “illegal acts” in these three countries and noted that Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has materials that could warrant action.

Arizona state Sen. Wendy Rogers, a Republican, said she is a co-sponsor of Finchem’s resolution and praised what she described as his “great leadership.”
Last week, Bowers torpedoed a bill that would have overhauled elections in Arizona, which would, in part, give the Legislature the power to reject election results.
