House Republicans
in upstate New York blasted the
Biden administration
for its “secrecy” in shuffling illegal
immigrants
from the U.S.-Mexico
border
into communities nationwide.

Five GOP lawmakers, led by House Republican Conference Chairwoman
Elise Stefanik
and Rep. Claudia Tenney, sent President Joe Biden a letter Thursday blasting his administration over new reports that immigrants showed up unannounced in small towns across the region.

“We join with our local officials and taxpaying residents in expressing deep concern that the influx of large numbers of migrants will overwhelm the local services and infrastructure, as they have done in border communities across the southern United States,” the
letter
stated. “In addition, we wish to express our outrage at the secrecy with which your administration has and continues to carry out these national relocation operations.”

The lawmakers — including GOP Reps. Nick Langworthy, Michael Lawler, and Marc Molinaro — stated that even a few dozen unexpected arrivals of people who have no money, food, housing, transportation, or legal ability to work in the country would place an unmanageable burden on government resources.

In one instance reported by the New York Post, a few dozen Colombian immigrants arrived in the 28,000-resident town of Jamestown, New York.

“Joe Biden’s failure to enforce the law at the border has made every state a border state,” Stefanik said in a statement to the Washington Examiner Friday. “Instead of securing the border, President Biden is shifting the burden of the influx of illegal migrants onto New York communities. Upstate New York should not be punished for Biden’s border crisis.”

The surprise arrivals have been facilitated by the federal government, as well as nongovernmental organizations that pay for travel costs and assist immigrants as they depart the border for locations nationwide.

In November 2021, the Washington Examiner
reported
that more than 70 flights transported migrants from the southern border to Jacksonville, Florida, in the dark of night.

The office of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said it was not informed ahead of time about the flights or who was facilitating them.
