It’s no longer the economy, stupid.
It’s the government.
WHITE HOUSE REPORT CARD: ‘HOME OF THE WHOPPER’
In a change tied to President Joe Biden’s poor approval ratings and the drawn-out battle to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) speaker, Gallup today said that “the government/poor leadership” has surged past concerns about the economy to become “the most important problem facing this country today.”
Gallup
said 21% cited the government, up from 15% last month when it was second to the economy and inflation. In the new survey, inflation ranks second, at 15%, followed by immigration at 11% and the economy at 10%.

America’s frustration with government is also universal, said Gallup, a break from the usual and expected partisanship on key issues facing the nation.
“The government ranks as the top problem for both Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (24%) and Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents (18%). Inflation and immigration are each cited by 18% of Republicans, while mentions of inflation (11%), the economy in general and race relations (9%) trail the government among Democrats. Democrats are more likely than Republicans to view unifying the country and the environment as top problems,” said Gallup in its analysis.
