Jack Nicklaus blames PGA ‘cancel culture’ for pulling championship from Trump golf course

Jack Nicklaus blamed a bowing to cancel culture for why the upcoming PGA Championship was pulled from the Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The winner of 18 grand slam titles, including five PGA Championships, is not happy that PGA CEO Seth Waugh moved this weekend’s golf tournament to Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“I like Seth Waugh,” Nicklaus told Fire Pit Collective. “Seth didn’t need this job. He took the job because he thought he could give the PGA of America some good guidance. And I think he’s doing that. But this move is cancel culture.”

In January 2021, Waugh said that a threatening “political situation not of our making” was the reason for pulling the tournament from Trump’s course. Waugh added he “had no choice.”

The Trump Organization fought back, saying that the PGA had “no right to terminate” the agreement.

In December, the two parties reached an undisclosed settlement resolving the dispute.

Following the settlement, the PGA issued a statement saying that both parties “expressed satisfaction with the agreement” and noted that “the Trump Organization’s contribution to the golf community is appreciated.”

Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization, added, “We have great respect for the work of the PGA.”

The 104th PGA Championship will run May 19-22.
