Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md.:

“Lose 10 pounds, win five seats in the House and maintain my edge over my sons in arm wrestling.”

Septime Webre, artistic director of the Washington Ballet:

“My resolutions are to try to get to yoga class fourto five times per week, and to cut back on the impulsive taxidermy purchases on eBay.”

Chef Cathal Armstrong, of Restaurant Eve, Eamonn’s and the Majestic:

“I will be carpool dad once a week.”

Terry McAuliffe, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee:

“Hands down: In 2008, my resolution is to help elect Hillary Clinton to the White House. She’s the Democratic candidate who’s able and who’s tested and who’s ready to be our next president from day one.”

Ed Henry, CNN White House correspondent:

“Stop using human growth hormone to ‘bulk up’ before high-profile live shots.”

Tarah Donoghue, associate at Gibraltar Associates and former deputy press secretary to first lady Laura Bush:

“Use my BlackBerry a lot less.”

Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va.:

“The senator is resolved to continue to provide a nonanswer answer to questions about his potential vice presidential status” (via his press secretary, Jessica Smith).

Chef Brian McBride, Blue Duck Tavern:

Try to make my kitchens as green as possible next year!”

Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif.:

“As the Congress gets closer to ending this session, and many of us prepare to celebrate the holidays with our families, it’s time for the Congress to come up with a collective New Year’s resolution of our own — to stand up to the president over his failed Iraq policy and bring all of our brave men and women serving in Iraq home to their families by this time next year.”

Julian Mulvey, consultant at Devine Mulvey:

“Plant trees. Tobacco. Quit it again. With the power of The Examiner’s readers looking over my shoulder, 2008 is the year!”

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform:

“To name five new species, a medium-sized galaxy and several small countries after Ronald Reagan — and to finally get Reagan on the 10- dollar bill.”

Chef Barton Seaver of Hook:

“Remember what rest means.”

Chuck Conconi, Qorvis Communications:

“I resolve to make only resolutions I can keep such as talking more and listening less and eating more and dieting less.”

Dana Perino, White House press secretary:

“I resolve to pick up the phone when my husband calls during the day — no matter what. I got that advice from a former White House official, and I need to put it into practice!”

Don Beyer, former lieutenant governor of Virginia and owner of Don Beyer Volvo:

“My New Year’s resolutions are not particularly special: Lose 12 pounds, get more sleep, go to Fenway Park for the first time, finish the Appalachian Trail in Tennessee and Pennsylvania and get half of Virginia completed, maybe buy a seersucker suit. The 2008 goals list is actually very long, but most items are current practices worth maintaining (date night every week, for example).”

Devin Talbott, co-founder of Generation Engage:

“Be nicer to my wife, as our new daughter has been monopolizing all my positive energy.”

Chef José Andrés, owner of THINKfoodGROUP, which includes Zaytinya, Oyamel and Café Atlantico, among others:

“Eat the right amount. No more! No less!”

Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va.:

“Lose weight.”
