Maryland wide receiver Ronnie Tyler’s second-degree assault charge resulted from a disagreement with a 33-year-old in front of a College Park 7-11 on Wednesday night, reports the school newspaper, the Diamondback.

Tyler, a senior wide receiver, was suspended indefinitely along with senior wideout Quintin McCree, who the paper reported wasn’t involved in the incident. Tyler was arrested Thursday morning on campus, according to the Diamondback sports blog, Terrapin Trail. University police spokesman Mark Limansky confirmed the arrest.
According to a judiciary case search, available on line, Tyler has a court date of Nov. 1. The incident happened at the 7-11 on Knox Road on one of the busiest blocks in College Park. Across Knox road is College Park Shopping Center. Also close by is the Cornerstone Grill.
The altercation left the 33-year-old with an injury to his nose. The man, a non-student, refused medical assistance. Tyler fled the scene after he realized a policeman had witnessed the incident.
The loss of Tyler, who has the Terps’ best hands, and McCree, the team’s fastest player, will hurt Maryland’s passing attack. The duo combined for 13 receptions for 82 yards in the Terps’ season opener against Miami on Labor Day.
The suspensions leave the Terps with two experienced wideouts – juniors Kevin Dorsey, who had 8 receptions for 124 yards in Maryland’s opening-game win over Miami, and Kerry Boykins (2 receptions, 40 yards). Standout punt returner Tony Logan excelled at wide receiver in the preseason , but has only one career catch.
Other Terps who could get the call at wideout include freshman Marcus Leak, who Edsall praised in the preseason Tyrek Cheeseboro, perhaps the fastest of the Terps beyond McCree; freshman Devin Burns, a converted quarterback; and freshman Adrian Coxsan, who is coming off an injury which kept him out of the opener. None has made a catch in a college game.
