Cheers & Jeers

Tim Tebow made the right decision. Now he has to do the right things if he wants to be a factor in the NFL. Some, including Mel Kiper, have said the Florida quarterback will have to switch positions in the NFL, possibly to tight end.

But one draft expert, Russ Lande, a former NFL scout who publishes GM Jr. and is the Sporting News’ draft analyst, said he disagrees.

“Right now he’s an elite athlete with a rocket arm with bad passing skills,” Lande said. “When I look at quarterback play in systems that are similar, guys like Alex Smith and Vince Young, Tim is not as good a passer as either one of those guys.

“Does he have the ability? Yeah. But he needs a lot of fundamental work to become a quarterback in the NFL. But I’m not like most who say he’s a tight end. You don’t throw away a guy with a big arm who’s a great leader and has a lot of athletic ability. You try to turn him into a legitimate quarterback because of the physical gifts he brings.”
