Long gets rave reviews

Freedom High rising senior point guard Cameron Long has already fielded scholarship offers from several Division I schools. But after a strong performance at the East Coast Invitational team camp in Jacksonville, N.C. this week, more could be forthcoming.

The 6-foot-4 Long helped Freedom to an 11-1 record and the camp tournament championship. He already has scholarship offers from George Washington, George Mason and Virginia Commonwealth and has drawn heavy interest from Virginia Tech, Clemson and Penn State, according to Freedom coach Ahmad Dorsett. But while Long stated a desire to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference and close to a major city, he is in no rush to settle on a suitor.

“Even [scholarship] offers are still just words to me because people can say anything they want,” Long said. “I’m going to take my time and make sure I visit each school before I decide. I’m keeping my options open.”

Long also helped Freedom win the Cardinal Run Summer League earlier this month and is a reserve guard for the Boo Williams AAU team based in Norfolk. He will have another chance to impress college recruiters while playing for Boo Williams at the Super Showcase Tournament in Orlando, Fla. this weekend.
