“I just want to salute those ‘geniuses’ in the Senate because they did not disappoint,” CNN’s Lou Dobbs said at the National Press Club on Tuesday. Dobbs was referring to the breaking news that the Senate had voted to revive the immigration bill.
Dobbs — whose show is largely devoted to his passionate campaign against illegal immigration — blamed both parties for what he called the chaotic state of current affairs and implored the audience to “go register as an independent.”
When asked for his opinion of current independent figures, Dobbs said, “Fortunately Ross Perot is safely in retirement,” citing the Texas billionaire’s “somewhat erratic behavior” in the ’92 elections. He praised independent presidential possibilities Ralph Nader and newcomer Michael Bloomberg.
Taking into account all of Dobbs’ ardent political rhetoric, does he plan to run for president? “I would not run because I wouldn’t be able to stand them. … I’d rather be critical of all of them,” he said.
As the luncheon came to a close, he commented on the presence of Paris Hilton on every news channel, including CNN: “Well that sure as hell does not include ‘Lou Dobbs Tonight.’ ”
