One of the major memes of Mainstream Media “coverage” of Sarah Palin since her nomination as the Republican vice presidential candidate has been how she has been kept away from journalists. The implication being that her handlers from the McCain campaign fear she will say something embarrassing.
Well, guess what? Seems that for more than six weeks now, Palin has been more accessible to journalists than has her Democratic opponent, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware AKA as Sen. Gaffamatic. And according to ABC News’ Jake Tapper, Palin has in some respects become the most accessible of the four candidates on the two major presidential tickets:
“Conversely, while Biden has an apparent embargo against fielding questions from his traveling press corps — and from his supporters — his once-reclusive Republican counterpart, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, has become increasingly accessible, perhaps more so than any of the four candidates.
“In the last two weeks, Palin has fielded questions twice from the Palin traveling press corps on board the campaign plane, and on Sunday night, Palin took impromptu questions from reporters on the airport tarmac in Colorado Springs, Colo., on issues ranging from her thoughts on Colin Powell’s endorsement of Obama to the role of robocalls in the election.
“An hour later, she took questions again from the press pool during an unscheduled stop for ice cream before returning to her hotel for the night.
“Palin has also become increasingly accessible to local and national media. Since the vice presidential debate, she’s participated in multiple interviews with local television stations across the country, and this week she gives interviews to CNN and NBC News. She has particularly embraced conservative media outlets — in the last week, she has called into Rush Limbaugh’s and Dr. James Dobson’s radio programs, while also speaking on camera with Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody.”
Even as Palin has become the most accessible of the four candidates MSMers who have been in the tank for Barack Obama for lo these many months have continued mouthing their meme about Palin being kept away from reporters. See here, here and here, for just three recent examples.
One need not be a card-carrying conservative to wonder how such inaccurate reporting can go on for weeks on end with no apparent consequences for the reporters and editors peddling such dishonest coverage. I have many friends in the MSM for whom I have great respect, but it continues to amaze me how blind so many of them are to facts like this and the damage it does to their credibility and that of the profession we all love so passionately.
