Thompson, Hoyas are rolling, but why?

It’s difficult to learn much about Georgetown early in the season when the Hoyas roll over opponents and the most detailed insight from head coach John Thompson III afterward is that his team has one more year of experience than it did the year before.

Thus the idea of a DLC — Designated Losing Coach — who each game will reveal the Hoyas’ new tricks.

Mount St. Mary’s head coach Milan Brown can have the job if he wants it.

“They look more like a cohesive unit this year, more so than last year,” said Brown after losing to Georgetown on Monday. “They just look like they’re having more fun playing with each other. They don’t mind who’s taking a shot.”

Ah, team chemistry. What about individual contributions, say, Jason Clark‘s defense?

“Sometimes he would just stay home and guard his guy,” said Brown. “Other times he would slide over and help all the way. And then he started bluffing and going back, and that’s when he got two steals.”

Now that’s a scouting report. To Thompson’s credit, he did say, “Our offense is probably a lot further along than we were at this point last year.”

It’s a start.
