Severna park senior Kayla Jenkins is looking to cap her career with her second state championship.
The star pitcher won a state title as a freshman, and on Friday, will appearin her third state title game in four seasons with the Falcons (21-4).
The only time Severna Park missed out on the state semifinal round was in 2005, when Huntingtown (Calvert County) beat the Falcons.
Huntingtown again poses a hurdle for Jenkins, as Severna Park plays the Hurricanes for the 4A state title at 8 p.m. tonight.
Hurricanes junior pitcher Kerry Hickey hasn?t allowed an earned run all season.
“Tomorrow is a great time to break that,” said Falcons coach Jeff Shepherd, who is in search of a school-record 22nd win.
The Falcons advanced Tuesday with a 5-1 win over Tuscarora. Jenkins allowed two hits and struck out 14.
