Vincent, 31, was an assistant at the Alexandria private school under Chuck Driesell last season. Driesell recently left Ireton to become an assistant coach at Maryland.

Hogan picks West Virginia
Osbourn High rising senior quarterback Brandon Hogan has verbally committed to West Virginia.
Hogan accounted for 3,183 yards of total offense and 36 touchdowns in 2005. He helped Osbourn to a 10-2 record and an appearance in the Northwest Region championship game.
Hogan’s commitment isn’t official until he signs a national letter of intent on Feb. 7, 2007. He chose the Mountaineers over scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Maryland, Tennessee and Clemson, among others. According to Osbourn coach Steve Schultze, Hogan will be given an opportunity to compete at quarterback at West Virginia.
“Brandon visited West Virginia four or five times and it was pretty clear that was the right fit for him,” Shultze said. “Whether it’s at quarterback or wide receiver or someplace else, he’ll have a chance to get the ball in his hands. And he’s already shown what he can do when that happens.”
Edison’s Obi plays waiting game
Lawyers for Edison High rising senior basketball player Kene Obi will not meet with Virginia High School League officials in Charlottesville this week, according to Eagles basketball coach Franklin McMillian.
The 7-foot-2, 260-pound Obi hopes to present his case before the VHSL Executive Committee to determine if he is eligible to play basketball at Edison next season. The VHSL Executive Committee declined to rule Obi eligible in February, citing a lack of official documentation that would have detailed Obi’s schooling in his native Nigeria. The meeting has not been rescheduled yet, according to McMillian. Obi enrolled at Edison in late January.
“But they need to get something done soon,” McMillian said. “This can’t go on into the school year, for the kid’s sake. He needs to know what his status is going to be.”
