D.C. United president and chief executive officer Kevin Payne is recovering at Fairfax Inova Hospital after undergoing six-hour, quadruple bypass surgery on Thursday.
Payne, 54, suffered a mild stroke in October, and resulting testing last month led to the planned procedure. He is expected to return to work in February.
United midfielder Devon McTavish also had a successful procedure, undergoing hernia surgery in
Germany. He is expected to be ready when training camp begins later this month.
United trainer Brian Goodstein has been selected to head the strength and conditioning program for the under-23 U.S. national team during its two-week training camp in Bradenton, Fla., beginning this weekend. United’s recently acquired goalkeeper Zach Wells began training camp with the senior international team earlier this week in Carson, Calif.
United also announced the completion of the transfer, which was agreed to last month, of goalkeeper Troy Perkins to Valerenga of the Norwegian first division.
