The Way To Win
Christine Pelosi is hoping that campaign smarts run in the family.
Following her mother Nancy’s ascendancy to the speaker’s chair this year, Christine is putting together abook that aims to teach political candidates (and the worker bees who love them) how to effectively run for office.
After all, the Pelosis know a thing or two about winning office …
“Campaign Boot Camp: A 7-Step Guide To Winning” will hit bookstores this fall and — what fun! — you can even chime in and give Christine your own advice. Yeas & Nays recently obtained an e-mail from Pelosi to friends in which she seeks out “success stories and lessons learned” in any of the book’s seven steps:

1. Identify your call to service.
2. Know your community.
3. Define your message.
4. Build your key teams.
5. Connect with people.
6. Raise the money.
7. Mobilize to win.
The book is based largely on the congressional “boot camps” she ran in 2006 for the AmericanFederation of State, County and Municipal Employees’ PEOPLE/New House PAC. Pelosi worked with 40 congressional challengers, 12 of whom were elected to Congress.
Pelosi tells Yeas & Nays that her book already includes advice from both sides of the aisle. From the right: George Will and Frank Luntz will be included. From the left: Rahm Emanuel, Max Cleland, Andrew Cuomo, Willie Brown and, of course, Mommy (“I think she’s great,” Christine told us, not surprisingly).
But don’t expect Christine to use her own advice and run for office anytime soon.
“At this point, I don’t think that’s something I’ll do,” she said.
