Caps defenseman Mike Green took part in the morning skate at Kettler Iceplex and said he still wasn’t sure if he would play tonight against the San Jose Sharks. Green was set to meet with team trainer Greg Smith afterwards. He took a puck to the head at the end of the first period against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Green was sporting stitches on his right temple afterwards and had a pretty good headache. The team wasn’t taking any chances, however.
“I don’t know if he’s going to play. He was feeling a lot better, which is a good thing,” said Caps coach Bruce Boudreau. “He’s got to go through some tests and then we’ll see how he feels tonight after going through tests….If there’s any doubt at all he’s not going to play. But if he’s got the green light and he’s 100 percent we’ll play him.”
For his part, Green says he’s never really dealt with a serious head injury. He admits he’s been lucky in that respect. Green’s missed seven games due to injury this season. He has eight goals and 16 assists.
“If it was serious I don’t think I’d be out there today,” Green said. “It is what it is. I have to make sure I’m smart about it obviously. But if I feel good I’ll play.”
