Loyola (12-4) head coach Jack Crawford said the playoff picture is a mystery.
“I thought this was a wonderful way for the seniors to end their home career,” Crawford added.
One senior in particular had a fantastic game for Loyola. Senior captain and attacker Mike Kimmel lit Severn?s net up with five goals and had an assist.
“I got lucky early and got myself close to the net,” Kimmel said. “I got some good screens from my teammates and took some good shots.”
“Our game plan was to come out here and take smart shots and we executed that,” Kimmel said.
Loyola junior Steele Stanwick had two scores and an assist, with seniors Gavin Guidera and Will Poletis scored twice, and seniors Joe Lennon and Pat Huctchinson scoring once. Tim Donovan and Jared Gangler each scored once while Lennon and Casey Creany had an assist each.
Kimmel, who is set to attend Johns Hopkins University, scored five straight goals for Loyola in the first half.
“I expect a senior captain, like Mike, to lead by example in a big game like this,” Crawford said.
Severn (11-7) head coach John Tucker was described Kimmel with two words: great shooter. “They were beating us up out of the gate,” Tucker said.
The Dons led 6-1 before Nick Elsmo scored the first goal of the game for Severn with a minute left before halftime.
Elsmo had two goals, Zach Swendloff had two goals and an assist. Severn?s Chase Loetz, Mark Staines and Eddie Weber all had single scores, while Stewart D?Ambrogi, J.P. Kokkinos and Chase Sutton all had single assists.
“The last few weeks we have been using our athletic ability and our lacrosse skills together to win and have been playing very physical,” Crawford said.
