Coming of their demoralizing first home loss of the season on Tuesday, the Washington Mystics begin a four-game road trip today against the Houston Comets. And with an abysmal 1-5 road record, Washington is desperately searching for a spark away from home.
“We have to come away with wins,” Mystics guard Alana Beard said of the team’s longest road trip this season. “This could be the make or break of our season and we have to get it done.”
The Mystics are a completely different team on the road, averaging nearly eight points less than at home and their shooting is also less efficient; they make 44.8 percent of their shots on the road, compared to 49.6 at home.
With the first two games of the trip against the Comets and Los Angeles Sparks — the Western Conference’s top two teams — Mystics forward Crystal Robinson said the focus needs to be on execution. The type of execution usually reserved for the postseason.
“We’ve just got to come out every game and play like it is a playoff game or the last game of the season,” Robinson said.
