The Caps have been here before. Down 2-0 in a postseason series with both losses coming at home? Happened in 2009 against the New York Rangers, yet somehow Washington rallied to win that. It puts enormous pressure on them in Game 3 at Tampa Bay on Tuesday and there is little time savor a win even if they get it – Game 4 in Wednesday at St. Pete Times Forum.
But it starts with belief and the Caps appear to have that still. Brooks Laich referenced the Rangers series. Several players mentioned that the Boston Bruins overcame this exact scenario against Montreal just last week in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
“Well the series is not over,” Washington forward Alex Ovechkin said resolutely. “We’re going to go there and we’re going to win two games. It’s going to be hard. But we have to win”
Center Jason Arnott: “It’s a long series. We’re not out of it yet. We’ve got to stay positive and keep moving forward.”
Forward Matt Bradley: “We’re just going to have to bounce back. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves down 2-0. Now we’ve got to win some games on the road….[Plus, your own recent history of coming back from 2-0?] Yeah and Boston did it this year. We’re definitely nowhere near out of it. We’re down two games and obviously would have liked to get one win here at home, but that wasn’t the case. Now we have to go there and get some wins on the road and then come back and win some games here.”
