The upcoming MLS All-Star game against Chelsea is nearly a rematch of last year’s exhibition between the English Premier League champions and D.C. United.
Two United players received their first all-star nods on Monday and were among four more D.C. players selected to the MLS All-Star team. United’s total of seven players is more than three times the number from any other MLS team – four teams have two players.
United head coach Peter Nowak, who will coach the MLS All-Star team, chose Freddy Adu, Bobby Boswell and Josh Gros for his all-star roster along with five players from other MLS teams.
MLS commissioner Don Garber also used one of two commissioner’s picks to recognize Alecko Eskandarian’s return to form after last year’s concussion.
Boswell and Gros will appear in their first all-star game, and Adu and Eskandarian both were chosen for the second time in their careers.
Christian Gomez, Jaime Moreno and Troy Perkins were selected last week to the MLS All-Star First XI.
Monday’s selections completed a roster of 18 players that will take on Chelsea at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., on Aug. 5.
