Mora lashes out at Trembley, Orioles

After games like Sunday — a 18-10 bludgeoning at the hands of the Boston Red Sox — it’s hard to envision a day soon when the Orioles will compete in the American League East.

But with elite, young talent at all three outfield spots, catcher and — by Tuesday when top prospect Brian Matusz is expected to make his big-league debut — four of the five rotation spots, Baltimore appears on the right track. An undeniable tension, though, emerges on any team in the midst of a transition to younger players. And it often doesn’t go smoothly.

Veteran third baseman Melvin Mora, unhappy about reduced playing time, lashed out at manager Dave Trembley on Sunday, saying he felt disrespected after playing hurt for much of the past two seasons.

“I need to sit down in my house, see what team [is] thinking to win,” said Mora, a 37-year-old who is a free agent at season’s end. “I know here they’re rebuilding and they bring a lot of young guys here, good players. I know it’s time for me to move on.”
