One question Maryland women?s basketball coach Brenda Frese had entering this season was how to distribute enough playing time to so many key contributors from last year?s national championship run.
If the top-ranked Terps? first five games are any indication, there will be plenty of time for all 11 team members to contribute this season. Maryland is 5-0 after rattling off three wins in three days over Texas Christian, Arizona and George Washington in the BTI Classic, held last weekend at the Comcast Center. So far, no Maryland player is averaging less that 13 minutes a game, and seven players are averaging at least seven points.
That balance and depth will be on display again this weekend in the Bahamas, where Maryland will participate in the Junkanoo Jam tournament. The Terps will face Gardner-Webb Friday and either Mississippi or Northwestern Saturday.
Junior forward Crystal Langhorne said last week that everyone on the roster is far more concerned about improving their win-loss record than how well their individual stats look in the box score at the end of the game.
“We?re not looking for individual awards,” said Langhorne, a 205-06 second-team All-American who is currently averaging 14.4 points and 8.6 rebounds a game. “Everyone here just wants to win championships.”
MARYLAND NOTES
» Crystal Langhorne scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Maryland to a 73-48 win over George Washington Sunday.
» Through five games, Maryland is defeating its opponents by an average score of 82-58.
