No. 1 Kansas 73, UCLA 61
LOS ANGELES — Markief Morris scored a career-high 19 points and No. 1 Kansas pulled away in the second half to beat UCLA 73-61 on Sunday, sending the Bruins to their fourth consecutive loss.
Xavier Henry added 16 points and Sherron Collins had 14 for the Jayhawks (7-0), who led the entire game but allowed UCLA to get within four early in the second half.
Michael Roll scored 16 points and Nikola Dragovic added 14 for the Bruins (2-5), who haven’t lost four in a row since 2003-04, coach Ben Howland’s first season in Westwood.
The last time the schools met was in the 2007 NCAA tournament’s West Region, when UCLA won by 13 points and went on to the second of three consecutive Final Four appearances.
Collins’ jumper gave Kansas its largest lead of the first half, 29-16. The Bruins ended the half on a 12-6 run to close to 35-28. UCLA outscored Kansas 6-3 to start the second half and get to 38-34.
No. 3 Villanova 95, Maryland 86
WASHINGTON — Scottie Reynolds scored 25 points and Corey Fisher added 20 to lead No. 3 Villanova over Maryland in the BB&T Classic.
The Wildcats (8-0) set a school record by attempting 39 3-pointers, making 16 — one short of the school mark. Corey Stokes led the way, going 5 for 11 from beyond the arc as part of an 18-point performance.
The Wildcats also ruled the boards, finishing with a 45-33 rebounding advantage.
Sean Mosley scored a career-high 26 points for Maryland (5-3) on 11-of-14 shooting, freshman Jordan Williams had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Eric Hayes scored 20, aided by a career-high five 3-pointers.
No. 12 Washington 88, Cal St. Northridge 76
SEATTLE — Isaiah Thomas scored 21 points — 13 from the foul line — Quincy Pondexter added 20 and No. 12 Washington rebounded from its first loss of the season.
The Huskies (6-1) sputtered at times three nights after a frenetic overtime defeat at Texas Tech in their only road game so far.
Cal State Northridge (4-4) was up by five early and led 48-47 with 5 minutes gone in the second half before Washington went on a 17-2 run to take control.
Junior-college transfer Lenny Daniel scored a career-high 24 points for the Matadors. Leading scorer Kenny Daniels was in foul trouble and had just seven points after scoring 39 in a win over Idaho Thursday.
No. 14 Connecticut 79, Harvard 73
STORRS, Conn. — Jerome Dyson scored 24 points and came within an assist of a triple-double for Connecticut.
The 6-foot-4 Dyson, who has scored over 20 points in five of UConn’s seven games, grabbed 14 rebounds.
Kemba Walker had 20 points and Stanley Robinson added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Huskies (6-1).
Jeremy Lin had 30 points for Harvard (6-2), which got within four points in the last 10 seconds, after trailing by as many as 16 in the second half.
Dyson hit seven of 11 shots in the first half, but made just one of 12 in the second.
No. 18 Clemson 72, South Carolina 61
CLEMSON, S.C. — Tanner Smith and Demontez Stitt scored 14 points each and Clemson won its sixth straight game over rival South Carolina.
The Tigers (7-2) used a late 18-6 run to pull away — and bounce back from a bad defeat to Illinois on Wednesday night when they surrendered a 23-point second-half lead and lost 76-74.
Devan Downey, who scored a career-high 37 points against the Tigers last season, was 3 of 15 from the field for eight points.
Brandis Raley-Ross scored 16 points for the Gamecocks (6-2), who again played without injured starters Dominique Archie and Mike Holmes.
No. 21 Florida St. 82, Fla. International 62
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Deividas Dulkys scored a career-high 19 points and Florida State overcame a slow start and poor first-half shooting.
The taller Seminoles rode a 26-3 run to a 34-17 halftime lead, allowing first-year coach Isiah Thomas’ visiting Panthers only one field goal over the final 11:02 of the half. FIU shot 22.2 percent in the first half and 35.5 percent for the game.
Florida State (7-2) scored the first nine points of the second half to build a 43-17 lead and opened it to 49-19.
Marvin Roberts led FIU (3-8) with 18 points while Marlon Bright added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Idaho 68, No. 25 Portland 48
MOSCOW, Idaho — Kashif Watson scored 15 points and Idaho handed No. 25 Portland its second straight loss since entering the national rankings for the first time in 50 years.
Luke Sikma scored 11 points to lead Portland (5-3), which also lost 86-82 against Portland State on Wednesday. The Pilots, who hadn’t been ranked since February 1959, are sure to tumble out of the Top 25 this week.
The Vandals (5-2) led the entire way, taking a 34-18 lead at the half. Idaho then went on a 14-2 run early in the second half to take control.
