Week 2 NFL superlatives

Breaking down the best and worst from Week 2 in the NFL: 1. Worst homecoming: Michael Vick » Playing in the Georgia Dome for the first time as a starter with the Eagles, Vick committed three turnovers before getting knocked out with a concussion in the third quarter, allowing the Falcons to erase Philadelphia’s 10-point fourth-quarter cushion and pick up a win.

2. Worst 0-2 start: Kansas City Chiefs » Last year’s AFC West champs have been outscored 89-10 by the Bills and Lions. And with running back Jamaal Charles out for the year, things may only get worse. Honorable mention goes to the Donovan McNabb-led Vikings, who have blown two big halftime leads.

3. Best rebound by a player: Tony Romo » A week ago, “clutch” was the last word being used to describe the Cowboys quarterback, who is better known for his fourth-quarter miscues. The resurgent Romo bounced back and played with a punctured lung to help drive the Cowboys to victory in overtime over the 49ers.

4. Best rebound by a team: Pittsburgh Steelers » A week after getting demolished by the Ravens 35-7, the Steelers’ defense bounced back and shut out the Seahawks. After turning the ball over seven times in Week 1, Pittsburgh had no giveaways Sunday.

5. Best encore: Cam Newton » Reigning MVP Tom Brady has thrown for 940 yards in the first two weeks, but perhaps the most impressive back-to-back performances belong to the Panthers’ rookie. Newton threw for 422 yards in Week 1 and 432 yards Sunday. The Panthers might be 0-2, but Newton’s prowess gives Carolina fans something to cheer about.
