Comcast SportsNet is launching a new show Monday at 10:30 p.m. — “Sports Talk Live” co-hosted by Ivan Carter and Brian Mitchell. The program is getting the full support of the NBC Sports Group, as the network wants to work closer with their regional partners and provide guests and analysts to the new CSN program. The synergy between CSN and NBC will be seen on the show’s new set, which will feature NBC’s iconic peacock logo.
How have you developed into a more complete broadcaster?
Mitchell » “Everyone knows that I played football in the NFL, but I have always followed other sports. I played both baseball and basketball. But I have gone to games, talked to players and worked with our staff like Chris Miller, who covers the Wizards, and Kelli Johnson, who handles the Nationals, have both been very helpful. The guy who has been the biggest help to me has been Al Koken. His knowledge of hockey is outstanding and he taught me a lot. I am constantly working hard to be the best I can be as an analyst.”
What about the new show?
Mitchell » “I have never had any trouble talking, either as a player or once I got into broadcasting. Everyone knows that I am a straight-shooter, I always speak my mind and I would never say anything on the air that I would not say directly to the person I am talking about. The conversations we have on ‘Sports Talk’ are going to be smart, informative and honest debating of the issues of the day. There won’t be any just saying something outrageous just to get a response from the audience. The show will also benefit from the great talent pool we have first here at CSN, where we have some of the best reporters and analysts in the business, the writers who work for the newspapers in the region and of course the top name guests we will get from NBC.”
