Westwood One

With Lee Westwood in a three-stroke lead, ironic that radio network Westwood One is broadcasting the Masters, huh?

Ironic and somewhat surprising, considering Westwood has never been much of a factor at Augusta, with only one top 10 in ten starts.

The depth of Westwood’s mid-career slump was such that he didn’t even qualify for the Masters three of four years (2001-04) and the U.S. Open three of five years (2002-06).

Interesting that Brandel Chamblee of the Golf Channel calls Westwood’s less-than-aesthetic swing the most technically-sound swing in golf. Westwood’s tempo is unsettling – he lashes at the ball. He’s the other extreme of Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, and Fred Couples. But all the angles are perfect and despite the lash, his balance is solid.

Westwood is averaging 288.7 yards per drive, ranking No. 6 in the tournament.
