UMBC advances in American East

Amanda Robinson scored 21 points and had eight rebounds, while Brittnie Hughes and Sharri Rohde each had 12 points as the seventh-seeded University of Maryland-Baltimore County (15-16) advanced to the America East finals with a 67-56 upset of No. 3 Vermont (19-12) Saturday.

The Retrievers will now advance to Sunday?s championship game with a berth in the NCAA tournament on the line. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.

Morgan State out of tourney

In other local women?s basketball action, Morgan State?s bid to reach the NCAA tourney came up on win short as the Bears (18-13) loss in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference finals to Delaware State, 55-42. Whitney Johnson scored 11 points in the loss for Morgan, which set a school record for wins this season.
