Glenelg High School?s wrestling team won their first ever Howard County championship Saturday.

In doing so, the Gladiators became the first team in 18 years other than Hammond, Oakland Mills and River Hill to take the title.

Glenelg?s Tim Chase (171), Alex Hufnagel (160), Danny Bichner (130), and Chris Stinnett (125) all won their events to drive the team victory.

In the 119-pound class, Glenelg?s Brian Marcoux beat Hammond wrestler Devon Gillett 3-1 in overtime.

Hammond came in second, followed by Atholton in third.

“Winning the county title in my first year coaching at Glenelg was really exciting,” said Glenelg head coach Scott Delpo.
