The first inning was all the South All-Stars needed to earn their bragging rights for another year.

The Southern All-Stars roughed up North pitcher Ryan Rivers for four runs in the first inning en route to a 5-4 win in the 26th annual Brooks Robinson High School All-Star Game Sunday at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

The North leads the all-time series, 14-10-2.

Rivers? first pitch hit Chris Henry, and Shawn Pleffner worked a walk. Matthew Baden lined a one-out single to center field, and Remo Orsini walked to put runners on first and second. After a double steal, Rivers uncorked a wild pitch to score Baden, and Brian Green singled home Orsini to put the South ahead, 4-0.

Rivers (0-1) recovered quickly, striking out the side on 13 pitches in the second inning and retired six consecutive hitters before Judson reached on an infield single in the third.

Rivers then struck out Baden to end the inning.

The North All-Stars got one run back off Arundel pitcher Eric Potter in the first when Alexander Bechta singled, stole second base and scored on Austin Harclerode?s groundout to short.

Potter (1-0) gave up one run on three hits in two innings to get the win.

Steve Lombardozzi led off the fourth with a double and stole third, and Harclerode drove him in with a sacrifice fly to cut the North?s deficit in half, 4-2.

The North capitalized on a pair of errors by the South squad in the fifth.

Josh Kempa walked with one out and moved to second when Baden couldn?t handle Judson?s throw at second base. Kempa scored on Baden?s low throw to first on a failed double-play attempt.

Judson took matters into his own hands ? and legs ? to get the South?s run back in the sixth.

Judson singled off Chris Moore, stole second and third base before crossing home plate on North catcher Kyle Kane?s errant throw to third to put the South stars ahead, 5-3.

With one out in the seventh, Harclerode launched a home run over the center-field fence off South reliever Jake Garvey to pull cut the lead to 5-4.

Tim Biggs beat out an infield single with one out, and Kempa singled to left field with two outs to put the North?s tying run at third. But Garvey got Kyle Kane to ground out to end the game.
