Jim Williams » Series betting beyond the game

With the World Series starting up, I wanted to ask an expert about what interesting offerings were coming out of Las Vegas concerning baseball. T.J. Kendrick, nationally known baseball handicapper of the sports service BetOnline.com, told me that “this is the closest World Series in the last five years with Tampa Bay having the slight early edge over the Phillies. Right now it is the Rays in 6 games with the Phillies in 6 a very, very close second.”

But what about the bets that have nothing to do with who wins and who loses the game?

Well Kendrick filled me in on plenty of crazy ways that people bet on the World Series without picking a team.

» Which team will get the first hit and/or which player will get the first hit of the game?

» Which pitcher will have the most strikeouts? Which hitter will have the most strikeouts?

» Which player will steal the most bases?

» Which player will hit the most home runs?

» Which player will make the most errors?

For those who like some more traditional issues. Kendrick says that Ryan Howard was the early favorite for World Series MVP. But that a sleeper pick gaining on the pack was Rays rookie pitcher David Price.

One last interesting bet was: “Will the Rays-Phillies World Series be the lowest rated series in history?” The early money says no according to Kendrick and I am sure that the people at FOX are happy to hear that.
