Look for Mike Bordick by the lake this spring. The former Orioles shortstop recently was named the head coach of the Boys? Latin School varsity baseball team.
Bordick is inheriting a Laker team that has had great success over the past two years. Taking over at Boys? Latin was a logical step for Bordick, who has twin 11-year-old boys and a 6-year-old son enrolled in the lower school.
“I knew that I would stay involved in the game one way or another, and I think this is a great opportunity to stay involved in the game and not have to travel around the country,” Bordick said Tuesday while promoting a local celebrity golf tournament at Geppi?s Entertainment Museum.
As for the Boys? Latin team, Bordick is unsure of the reception he will receive from the players.
“I was lucky enough to play for the Orioles,” he said. “They might look at it a little differently, but I am not going to reinvent the wheel or anything.”
Boys? Latin has been successful over the past two years under coach Roger Czerwinski, including finishing 13-1 last spring in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference regular season, followed by two straight losses in the postseason. Czerwinski, who was splitting time as the assistant principal of Archbishop Curley High School and coaching at Boys? Latin, left the program to take an athletic director position at West York Area High School in Pennsylvania.
