Isn’t it always sunny in Philadelphia?

Public safety in the greater Philadelphia area was of utmost concern in deciding to move the Eagles-Vikings game to Tuesday night, and NFL executives definitely weren’t secretly high-fiving behind closed doors on Sunday afternoon. Why?

1. New Year’s week college bowl games are more compelling than four straight days of NFL games. N.C. State against West Virginia in the Champs Sports Bowl is a huge matchup. After all, the ACC and Big East are the fifth- and sixth-best BCS conferences. Michael Vick’s MVP candidacy is just a blip on the national sports radar.

2. Toby Gerhart is having a fantastic rookie season. He’s averaged almost 70 yards rushing in the last three games, and Adrian Peterson, well, how much healthier can a player get with two extra days? Brett Favre — by the way, how’s his head — can attest that it only helps so much.

3. Nobody likes snow games, especially when they could equalize the Vikings and Eagles and decrease the likelihood of a Vick-returns-to-Atlanta NFC Championship game. Best to wait until the weather clears.
