A Single-Finger Salute For Russ Feingold

It’s no surprise that someone like Sen. Russ Feingold, who’s made a career out of giving the proverbial finger to political convention, would get a few birds flipped his way, too.

So it was last weekend at his home in Wisconsin. Feingold said he had just finished a round of golf and was relaxing on the porch when a car slowly drove by. He saw the window go down and an arm extend to give him what he thought was a wave. Nope. It was a bit more pointed than that.

But Feingold took it in stride, calling it no better proof that we live in a “great country” that someone can drive by and flip their senator the bird.

Feingold was speaking at a book party for “Feingold: A New Democratic Party,” Sandy Horwitt’s new biography of the senator, on Monday night in Woodley Park.

The 200-plus guests — including many University of Wisconsin-Madison grads — packed it in on the sweltering night, cooled somewhat by the Leinenkugel beer from Wisconsin.

Feingold had a personal drink carrier, who carried around his water while he glad-handed and interacted. Horwitt concluded by saying that it pays to be a “truly honest man,” which he claims the still-young senator has been his whole life.
