Tiger in the chamber
On a night when politicians dress to stand out, freshman Rep. Steve Cohen might have stood out the most. After the State of the Union speech, the Memphis-based Democrat had the president sign a University of Memphis baseball cap.

As soon as he procured the autograph, he quickly doffed the white cap and left a voicemail for John Calipari, who coaches Mempis’s No. 1-ranked basketball team.
By the time we caught up with Cohen, Calipari had called back, telling Cohen he saw the whole thing on television. “Cohen, you’re the best! Who’s better than you?” he said on the return voicemail.
Cohen said he’d donate the hat to a charity auction or give it to the Tiger Hall of Fame.
Cohen’s neckwear was significant, too. Prior to the speech, he showed us the tie he picked out for the evening, a pink number from the White House Historical Association that his girlfriend gave to him. Inspired by LBJ, it had stars and eagles on it, which “seemed appropriate,” he told us.
