For Oregon State, it’s time to play blue

Boise State is a school that gives every big-name program pause as it has proved itself more than once against top-10 programs.

But until this week, no one’s ever colored its practice field blue to prepare for Bronco Stadium — even though Boise State has lost just one game there in the past five years. Oregon State has broken new ground — errr, paint job — by taking the Smurf turf to its practice field in Corvallis. The Beavers, ranked No. 22 by The Washington Examiner, have dropped $8,000 (provided by an unnamed donor) to turn their grass blue to aid in getting ready for Saturday’s matchup in Idaho.

While the Broncos do use their blue jerseys to camouflage the defense, if you’re paying attention, it shouldn’t be any harder than playing Marshall, Oregon or Michigan State on normal fields.

But if the Beavers do find a way to win in Boise, it will be their first nonconference win against a team ranked in the top three by the Associated Press.

That would be worth $8,000.
