Fairfax County Public Schools has announced the cancellation of all after-school activities, including athletic events, for tonight.
The move comes in response to Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine’s call for a statewide day of mourning to honor the victims of Monday’s shooting rampage at Virginia Tech that left 33 dead. There will be a memorial service at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax at 7 tonight to honor those killed, including the five victims from Northern Virginia.
“[FCPS] just felt it was the least we could do to provide a place where students, staff and the community could come together,” said Paul Jansen, the coordinator for student activities and athletics for FCPS. “This gives everyone one less thing to think about tonight and allows us to focus on the tragic events of this week.”
