For the New York Knicks, Christmas won’t really come for another four weeks or another 10 weeks or sometime before the regular season ends. Whenever Baron Davis gets healthy enough to play again — he’s sidelined by a herniated disk in his back — the Knicks’ latest addition should be greeted in the style of the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade. That’s the impact he could have playing at Basketball Mecca — on a grand stage and under a bright spotlight where he thrives the most.
Until that day comes in January — or in March — New York will stare at a thin rotation and a lack of point guard options with Toney Douglas backed up by Mike Bibby, who was underwhelming in Miami and Atlanta last season and so important to the Wizards that they paid him to leave town.

The Knicks still landed free agent prize Tyson Chandler, but they remain a team with a star duo, not a trio. Until Davis is in uniform, their ceiling is far lower than they probably would like to admit.
