It was remarkable that Vlad Moldoveanu dropped 26 points in his American debut after sitting out a year following his transfer from George Mason.
It should’ve been expected.

“I don’t think anybody would’ve guessed that it was his first game playing with this team,” said Eagles head coach Jeff Jones.
But Moldoveanu had watched George Mason go to the Final Four in 2006 from nearby St. John’s College High before becoming a member of the Patriots’ next recruiting class. He then transferred to American, only to be on the bench as the Eagles won their second straight Patriot League title and nearly upset Villanova in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
He was all but due to help American top DePaul, 62-57, last week, giving the Eagles (2-10) not only their second win of the year but their first victory over a Big East opponent since beating Georgetown, 62-61, on Dec. 15, 1982.
“I don’t think I surprised myself,” said Moldoveanu. “I did what I can do, and my teammates know what I can do, too.”
