In what may have been one of the most disgusting presentations on Capitol Hill in recent memory,the American Dental Association and bipartisan legislators spoke out against the scourge of “meth mouth” — the rotting, discoloring and decaying of teeth that users of methamphetamines experience. (In part, cravings for sweets can drive users to drink lots of soda.)
With revolting photos posted, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., said it best: “It’s really, really disgusting,” adding that he is doing all he can “to stop methamphetamines altogether.”
“It is a chemical cocktail that literally rots away your teeth,” added Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash. “Teens will be forced to use dentures for the rest of their life.”
