CB Carlos Rogers. Who knew he could catch? Rogers was helped by QB Donovan McNabb’s wobbly and underthrown ball. But in coming back for it, along with WR Santana Moss, Rogers tipped the pass up and then scrambled to catch it as well. Good coverage and a good play.

LT Selvish Capers. Gotta say, he’s improved in the past several practices. I don’t see him tipping off where he’s going as much and his hand placement is much, much better. Did a solid job vs. LB Curtis Gatewood on a couple rushes and even was able to prevent Albert Haynesworth one time from controlling him. He’ll still show that he’s a rookie who needs a lot of work, but he’s also shown that he’s worth a long look.
WR Brandon Banks. Love watching him run just because he’s so fast (4.24 in the 40). He grabbed a deep ball from John Beck, running a deep post. He also caught a couple nice outs. The reason I can’t get too excited about him is because of how easy it is for defenders to hit him, or run through him to knock the ball away. But it’s hard not to enjoy watching him at times.
FS Kareem Moore. Had a good read on an out pass to Moss and defended the play. And he would have taken Anthony Armstrong’s head off on another play had it been a real game. Moore also shook off Terrence Austin’s block attempt with no problem. In a one-on-one drill with tight ends, in which the safeties line up about 5 yards away, he was very good. In a drill where tight ends hold the advantage, Moore knocked a few passes away. He wasn’t fooled at all.
QB John Beck. Continues to grow in this offense. Connected with Banks on a deep ball and dumped a nice touch pass over the top of LB Chris Draft to RB Clinton Portis for a nice gain. Beck had rolled to his left on the play. I’ll be curious to see how Beck develops; he’s also not some young kid. Maybe he could grow into a solid No. 2 some day.
TE Logan Paulsen. Did a good job blocking at the goal-line, especially vs. Rob Jackson. Sealed the end several times. Paulsen has done a solid job. Has stood out much more than Dennis Morris.
RB Ryan Torain. Keeps making plays that show what he could do if he stays healthy. Just cuts well. Also does well in protection.
Duds
SS LaRon Landry. In full-team work he was fine, but in the drill vs. the tight ends he was not. He probably struggled more than any safety. Once, Fred Davis started out, faked in and then went back out. Landry was fooled. That wasn’t the only time it happened. Take it for what it’s worth, but I will say that Landry is not at his best in coverage even from inside the box.
CB Justin Tryon. For starters, don’t read too much into his standing on the depth chart. He’s consistently worked with the No. 2 defense. And he’s usually been OK. He made a couple nice plays this morning. But two bothered me: Roydell Williams easily controlled him on a block, opening the outside, and Terrence Austin smoked him off the line. Tryon was trying to jam him, but Austin shook him with his first step. Tryon was able to catch up, but a faster receiver would have left him behind.
WR Devin Thomas. Continues his inconsistent camp and it’s easy to read between the lines when Mike Shanahan talks about him. He is not effusive at all and he doesn’t like to give any depth to his comments about Thomas. Anyway, Thomas dropped a pass on a crossing pattern this morning before catching another one later (that was slightly behind him). Thomas’s ability to play special teams could be the reason he sticks.
RB Willie Parker. Just don’t like him in pass protection. LB Andre Carter got around Stephon Heyer on one snap and Parker was there to help. But he didn’t slow Carter down one bit. Carter has a big size advantage, but if Parker wants to play, he must show more in protection. He also didn’t do a whole lot in picking up a blitzer inside.
TE Dennis Morris. Just hasn’t done anything. Logan Paulsen and Lee Vickers are firmly ahead of him.
QB Rex Grossman. He wasn’t terrible, but he threw another pick on a tough pass over the middle (a nice grab by Kevin Barnes). It’s a weak spot for Grossman.
LS Nick Sundberg. Skipped another snap back to holder Josh Bidwell. Can’t imagine Sundberg is on the roster much longer. At this point even if he’s decent in the games, there’s no way they can trust him.
