Bel Air names new coach

After leading Bel Air to the state title game in 2004, head coach Bruce Riley caught the local football scene off guard when he announced his resignation from the post following the 2005 season.

Bel Air principal Joe Voskuhl told The Examiner that the program has been handed over to veteran assistant Tony Belcastro.

Belcastro, a Bel Air alum, played football, basketball and baseball for the Bobcats. Aside from serving as a coordinator for the Bobcats football program, he also coached the junior varsity basketball team.

Prior to joining the staff at Bel Air, Belcastro was athletic director at Harford Technical High School, where he also coached baseball.

“He brings to the table experience and the ability to motivate and work with kids,” Voskuhl said. “He?s a very positive coach.”

“I look for a very smooth transition,” Voskuhl said.

The Bobcats were 5-5 in 2005.
