The NBA’s loss could be Europe’s gain.
New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams has an agreement in principle to play in Turkey for Besiktas if the NBA lockout continues into the season.
And other NBA stars could be targeted as well.
“If there’s a possibility, we’ll talk with Kobe [Bryant] if he’d like to play in Europe with Deron and with other guys to play we can talk with him,” Besiktas coach Ergin Ataman told the New York Times.
But not everyone is buying into heading overseas.
Magic guard Gilbert Arenas tweeted: “i signed a contract with Dr phillips YMCA ‘or was that a membership’ why go overseas to ball hog i can do that HERE in the state of orlando.”
Williams has an out to return to the NBA once the work stoppage ends, and Eurpoean clubs don’t have enough money to keep NBA stars long term.
But for one season, European basketball could have some familiar faces.
