A right-handed pitcher, Overbey recently called former Maryland teammate Steve Schmoll. The latter was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Dodgers, made his big league debut with the club in 2005 and is now part of the New York Mets? farm system with Triple-A Norfolk.
“I wanted to see how he was doing. He is a great pitcher. He is real smart. I had worked out with him over the winter,” Overbey said.
Overbey would love a shot at playing pro baseball. This season he was 5-2 with an ERA of 3.49 in 29 games out of the bullpen. He pitched 49 innings for the Terps, who failed to make the ACC tournament.
Overbey, like Schmoll, has droped down with his delivery late in his career at Maryland. He throws a fastball and slider, and his fastball has been clocked in the low 90s.
