Navy grad ties for fifth in Nationwide Tour event
With his fifth-place finish in the Mylan Classic in Canonsburg, Pa., Leesburg native Billy Hurley III won $21,900 and vaulted from 29th place to 19th on the Nationwide Tour money list, enhancing his chances of advancing to the PGA Tour.
The top 24 players on the Nationwide money list move up. There are seven events left on the Nationwide schedule over the next two months, culminating with the
Nationwide Tour Championship in Charleston, S.C.
After missing the cut in five of his first six events this year, including the Melwood Prince George’s County Open in College Park, Hurley has cashed checks in eight straight Nationwide Tour events.
Hurley, 29, is a Naval Academy graduate who completed his five-year requirement in the service in the summer of 2009.
