Former Annapolis assistant coach Dale Chambers has been selected as the new varsity boys basketball coach at Archbishop Spalding.
Chambers, who will also teach at the Severn school, takes over for Pete Strickland, who resigned earlier this month without coaching a game to become an assistant at N.C. State.
Chambers, who previously taught at Spalding, proved his ability as a solid head coach during the 2004-2005 season when he took over at Annapolis for John Brady while the veteran coach recovered from surgery. He guided a young Panthers squad to an unexpected appearance in the Class 3A state semifinals.
“(Chambers) is familiar with the county and the school and should be a good fit for us,” Spalding Athletic Director Lee Dove said.
