Bradley Rotter of Potomac emerged in a playoff with Eric Sawchuk of Waldorf to win the 28th Dewey Ricketts Memorial, Wednesday at Worthington Manor. Rotter, a senior at Churchill, made a two-putt par on the first playoff hole while Sawchuk failed to get up and down from behind the green.
It was the first WMGA title for Rotter (70-81-75 – 226), who emerged from a crowded field in which two strokes separated the top five. Sawchuk (75-79-72 – 226) was runner-up, while Kensington’s Brian McCormick (74-79-74 – 227) and Woodbine’s Alex Taylor (75-76-76 – 227) tied for third.
Taylor, a member at Westwood, was trying to win his second straight WMGA event after capturing the Bob Riley Junior Open, last week at Belle Haven.
In the Ricketts 14-15 Division, Patrick Moriarty of Rockville (72-75-79 – 226) took a four-stroke win over Brent Bubes of the District (75-81-74 –230). It was the first WMGA title for Moriarty, a sophomore this fall at Rockville High.
