And, finally, the third installment of Redskins Radio Tuesday. This time, it’s Clinton Portis on ESPN 980 with John Thompson and Doc Walker.
Not a whole lot of highlights, but here are the few:
On if he’s still feeling symptoms from the concussion: “It was just the vision. Outside of that I haven’t tried anything else. I wasn’t having any headaches or nausea. I felt my vision was off and once we realized it, it was basically getting my eyes back up to speed. I just left the doctor 30 minutes ago and he cleared me and said [my vision] was fine. Now I have to go back up to Pittsburgh [to see the concussion specialist Monday].”
On the offense’s play of late compared to early in the season: “I think it showed better rhythm, getting in and out and up and down the field. In the last couple weeks you’ve seen more explosive plays, more people getting involved and utilizing our talent. If you could start over and get everyone involved at the beginning of the season, I don’t know how that would go, but I think more guys would have come up with more opportunities for more big plays.”
On how difficult it would be if they had to start over next year with a lot of new people: “Well, for the players it’s something we’re used to … having new people and learning a new system. As far as revamping the organization, that’s a choice they have to make. At some point you realize all the talent and all the money you’re spending to give you guys to come in and help you win and we’re not doing it. At some point Mr. Snyder’s frustration will kick in and who knows if he will decide to just clean house and start all over. If you look to teams that have done that, you might find more success, just rebuilding and clean it out. That’s a decision he’s got to make. If I’m around, I’ll just figure out a way to fit in and go give them everything I’ve got.”
On whether players are as conscious of the talk surrounding possible changes as the public is: We know win, lose or draw you still have to go out and perform. Just because we’re 3-8 you can’t throw in the towel and quit. You still have to go and work. For the players we have, once you step onto the field there’s no need to waste an opportunity. … You’re auditioning for someone else or you audition for someone here. You still have to maintain your job. Players know that.”
On whether or not he’d consider going on IR: “That’s up to them. I would love to be on the field and trying to get out there and finish out the season. At the same time I have to do what’s safe and what’s best. They will make that decision. I don’t know how that would go. If I’m cleared and I can get back out there for the last couple games I will definitely try to get back out there. But if I can’t, I’ll go into the offseason healthy and looking forward to starting fresh next year. … I don’t think I will go out there and try to push it and try to prove something. I don’t have anything to prove. If I’m healthy, I put myself up against anybody. I’m not worried about having a job. ‘Oh, he’s too old.’ I’m not worried about any of that. I have to get myself heathy … whether it’s to help the Redskins or anyone else.”
